INTRODUCTION
Uromi Justice Development Peace and Caritas Initiatives sustained developmental effort across its thematic areas to contribute to peaceful coexistence, better information sharing and improved livelihood in the five Local Government Areas of Edo Central Senatorial District. In the human rights desk, Uromi JDPCI sustained efforts at capacity building for Human Rights Club members and Paralegals in 25 communities. Quarterly meeting was also held to coordinate information and experience sharing. It also serve as a platform for shared learning, development of synergy and mobilization of local resources for effective response to human rights promotion in the selected communities. Uromi JDPCI joined the rest of the world to commemorate the World Human Right Day. The focus was on women’s rights to inheritance and the cultural practice of widow inheritance: The position of the law. Uromi JDPCI also engaged in sensitization across communities, schools, markets and churches to raise awareness on the danger of human trafficking and irregular migration and promote the need to curb the ugly trend in Edo Central Senatorial District. This led to the engagement of 24 vulnerable young persons into vocational skill acquisition in Esan South East and Esan Central LGAs. 100 caregivers of vulnerable young persons were also supported with grant of Fifty Thousand Naira (NGN50,000) each to start an Income Generating Activity or improve the one that they already had. All these were part of efforts to create alternative to irregular migration for the beneficiaries. Uromi JDPCI also completed the household assessment for another set of fifty household who’s adolescent girls are in Government secondary school with a bid to improve their livelihood and economic capacity to retain their children in school so as to be less susceptible to human traffickers. In the same vein Uromi JDPCI joined in the revigourated effort to promote environmental protection through the implementation of the Clean Energy Cook Stove Innovation which resulted in the sensitization of community women on the application of rock to their traditional cookstove. In the same vein, Uromi JDPCI provided welfare and spiritual support to the inmates in Ubiaja prison through the celebration of Christmas Carol with the inmates. The Micro Credit desk also sustained the empowerment drive with the provision of support to beneficiaries in groups across communities in Edo Central Senatorial District.
