There are many health issues that the people of Edo central senatorial district contend with. These include inadequate knowledge about their health, inadequate health facilities (primary and even secondary health facilities), inadequate water to maintain proper personal hygiene and environmental sanitation. Many public schools do not have good toilet facilities. TB and HIV are still spreading, and those suffering from them are still stigmatized. There are many orphans and vulnerable children to cater for with very limited resources. Women in many homes require the authorization of their husbands to access medical care. Poverty rate is high and it is a leading cause of people not being able to access good health care. Issues about mental health is becoming significant because people are affected by the poor economic situation, traumatized by the harsh situation and many are losing their minds. Uromi JDPCI, has in the past carried out interventions involving awareness creation on HIV/AIDS, TB screening, escort services, household economic strengthening for infected and affected households among others. It is important to continue with the programmes on health education and public sensitization on health related issues, so that the populace can accord more priority to their health.
