The essence of governance is to make life more meaningful for the citizens and dwellers in the country. The process of electing leaders into position of authority is through the democratic process. There are several national political parties on whose platforms candidates emerge to campaign for votes. However, there is not so much that is known about the ideologies and programmes of these parties. While the government is making efforts to bring reforms into the electoral process through the newly signed electoral law, and the increased use of technology in the voting process, there is high level of illiteracy among the electorate. Aspiring into elective position costs so much financially. Vote buying is still being witnessed. Uromi JDPCI and other CSOs that are into good governance do organise political engagement programmes that encourage elected political leaders to give account of their stewardship to the electorate. The system requires more of such feedback mechanisms. The political parties also need to educate the electorate on their parties’ ideologies and the programmes they have to bring about good governance.
