The effect of climate change is now being felt in many ways including the destruction of properties and loss of lives through floods and through natural disasters. Due to deforestation, indiscriminate bush burning, and desert encroachment in the northern part of the country, there is greater pressure on the use of land in the rainforest and savanna belts of the country which often leads to herdsmen-farmers clashes. The ways our natural resources are being exploited expose the people to a lot of health hazards, economic disenfranchisement, and a high level of insecurity in the country. Indiscriminate disposal of waste remains a worrisome issue There is a high level of ignorance of the effects of climate change on the environment. Awareness on the use of alternative energy like solar is still low. Waste management is mainly in the hands of private waste collectors who collect, sort (into metals, plastic, and paper) and sell whatever they are able to salvage from the dumpsites. There is the need to intensify awareness about climate change, introduce measures that will reduce the emission of carbon-dioxide into the atmosphere, and promote the use of renewable energy as alternatives to fossil fuel. To be able to do these effectively, there is the need to improve the organisational capacity in terms of knowledge, skill, and collaboration with relevant governmental and non-state actors involved in this area of work.
